I am that Mother

Melissa

I am that mother,
Yes, that very one,
A few kilos over,
Hair come undone.
A bag on each shoulder,
Sweat on her brow,
A little off colour,
from rushing around.

I am that mother,
Who’s work never ends,
A small heap of laundry,
And some long distance friends.
Her hands feel quite tired,
They look like it too,
She wears many hats,
There’s so much to do.

I am that mother,
Who’ll dress on the fly,
Slap on some make-up,
At the red traffic light.
She eats while she cooks,
And cooks while she cleans,
While getting around,
All the stuff in between.

I am that mother,
With the small screaming child,
A stain on her shoulder,
Complimenting her style.
There are tantrums to calm,
And mischief to cease,
A baby to change,
And a family to feed.

I am that mother,
Who wouldn’t change a thing,
What matches her children,
And the joy that they bring?
His sweet baby talk,
The girl in disguise,
Are worth all her dreams,
And her dark circled eyes.

I am that mother,
Who can’t help but smile,
As she looks through the lens,
At her beautiful child.
She can’t stop to care,
What the world may see,
Her heart is her mirror,
They’re perfect, it seems.

I am that mother,
Who tries really hard,
Yet can’t always go,
Those glaring nine yards.
But sweet little people,
Still think she’s the best,
What love could this be?
Puts her spirit to rest…

I am that mother,
Who’s heart is so full,
As she plays with her children,
And acts like a fool.
She’s counts up her blessings,
In soft, fuzzy heads,
As she kisses their faces,
And puts them to bed.

I am that mother,
Who is somebody’s child,
And now understands,
Her own mother’s eyes.
The depth of the love,
The depth of the pride,
The depth of the tears,
The deep sacrifice.

I am that mother,
Who down on her knees,
Is thanking the Lord,
Yet still can’t believe.
He sculpted her prayers,
And gave her much more,
She loves as she loves,
‘Cause He loved her before.

Love the poem.. You have so beautifully put to rhyme and rhythm the harried life of a mother and the underlying pleasure n love. The last stanza is the best and I’m certain God will soon sculpt all your prayers into reality, as He is already doing.

What a beautiful poem…! Though words are never enough to describe the role of a mother , you have encapsulated it so well …
